Robert J. Dickson

Litigation Practice:
Mr. Dickson handles complex litigation matters primarily involving the areas of construction litigation, including design professional malpractice defense, and healthcare law, including medical malpractice defense. He has represented the largest general acute care hospital in Alaska on various issues pertaining to health care, employment, peer review and medical malpractice. He has also represented nursing homes and other health care providers in Fairbanks, Kodiak, Palmer, and Kenai. In addition to owners, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, sureties, title companies and banks, Mr. Dickson has represented national and international design and engineering firms on a variety of claims including engineering malpractice defense, as well as contract disputes. He was a charter member in Alaska of the American Academy of Hospital Attorneys and is currently a member of its successor, the American Health Lawyers Association. He is also a member of Defense Research Institute.
He authors a regular feature on construction law in the quarterly Alaska Contractors Magazine. He is also the co-author of Alaska Construction Law, and author of the Alaska Chapter in Sourcebook on State Public Construction Law, (CCH 2002) and numerous other publications on Alaska construction law.
He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Providence Alaska Medical Center. Mr. Dickson’s work for health care institutions has included contract matters, procurement disputes (bid protests), property tax disputes, informed consent issues, licensing and certificates of need, among others. Since 1972, Mr. Dickson has represented the Sisters of Providence in Washington and Providence Alaska Medical Center, the largest acute care hospital in the state. His work for the hospital currently includes defending medical malpractice liability claims, as well as consulting on contract issues and miscellaneous health care matters. He is a member of Health Lawyers Association, formerly the American Academy of Hospital Attorneys.
Background:
Mr. Dickson has been a member of Atkinson, Conway & Gagnon since 1972, and a shareholder since 1974. Holds an “AV” peer review rating in Martindale-Hubbell. Has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America since 1995, and in 2007 was named in Alaska Super Lawyers. Mr. Dickson received his B.A. degree in 1969 from the Northwestern University. He received his Juris Doctorate in 1972 from the University of Illinois.
